Experience Ronald Brautigam

Ronald Brautigam is a Dutch pianist renowned for his historically informed performances on the fortepiano. Born in 1952, he initially studied modern piano before dedicating himself to the study and revival of 18th and 19th-century performance practice. A pivotal moment was acquiring a beautifully restored Anton Walter fortepiano in 1985, becoming a leading figure in the burgeoning fortepiano movement.

Brautigam’s discography is extensive, focusing heavily on the works of Beethoven – notably completing a critically acclaimed Beethoven sonata cycle on fortepiano for Challenge Records. He also champions composers like Mozart, Haydn, and Schubert, consistently receiving praise for his nuanced interpretations and technical mastery.

Beyond solo work, Brautigam frequently performs with period instrument orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century led by Frans Brüggen (with whom he collaborated extensively) and Phiharmonia Baroque Orchestra. He holds a professorship at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and regularly gives masterclasses internationally. His recordings have earned numerous awards including Diapason d’Or and Gramophone Editor's Choice accolades, solidifying his position as a leading interpreter of early keyboard music.
