Roberto Rizzi Brignoli is an Italian composer, conductor, and pianist renowned for his innovative approach to contemporary classical music and film scoring. Born in Milan in 1970, he studied composition with Azio Corghi and conducting with Donato Fioretti. He’s particularly known for blending orchestral textures with electronic elements, creating a sound often described as neo-romantic with minimalist influences.
Rizzi Brignoli’s career encompasses composing for numerous internationally acclaimed films, including “Il Traditore” (The Traitor) directed by Marco Bellocchio – for which he received a David di Donatello award nomination for Best Score in 2019 – and Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Young Pope.” He frequently collaborates with leading European orchestras and has had works commissioned by institutions like the Teatro alla Scala.
Beyond film, he composes concert music – including operas and chamber pieces – exploring themes of memory, identity, and the human condition. His style is characterized by lyrical melodies, harmonic richness, and a meticulous attention to sonic detail. He currently teaches composition at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan, continuing to influence the next generation of composers.
