Robert Turner is a highly respected British jazz double bassist, composer, and educator. Emerging prominently in the 1970s, he’s become a cornerstone of the UK jazz scene, though often working *behind* prominent artists. He initially gained recognition with the Humphrey Lyttelton band, remaining a key member for over two decades (1976-1994).

Turner’s playing is characterized by a warm tone, impeccable timekeeping, and melodic sensitivity – eschewing flashy virtuosity for solid rhythmic foundation and thoughtful improvisation.
