Experience Riccardo Frizza

Riccardo Frizza is a highly regarded Italian conductor celebrated for his interpretations of Italian opera, particularly the works of Verdi, Puccini, and Mascagni. Born in Brescia in 1971, he studied piano and composition at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome before dedicating himself to conducting.

Frizza’s career blossomed rapidly, initially as *maestro al cembalo* and assistant conductor at Teatro alla Scala, Milan. He quickly gained recognition for his insightful and dramatically compelling readings, leading to engagements with major opera houses globally including La Fenice (Venice), Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Metropolitan Opera (New York).

He’s particularly known for his meticulous research and historically informed performances, often reviving lesser-known operas to critical acclaim. A specialist in verismo repertoire, Frizza's recordings of *Cavalleria Rusticana* and *Pagliacci* have been widely praised. He served as Music Director of Teatro Comunale di Bologna from 2018-2023, further solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in Italian opera. His discography includes numerous critically lauded recordings on labels like Dynamic and Opera Rara.
