Experience Residentie Orkest
Residentie Orkest (The Hague Residentie Orchestra) is one of the Netherlands’ leading symphony orchestras, boasting a history stretching back to 1904. Founded as the “Orkest Vereeniging Het Residentie,” it quickly gained prominence under conductors like Willem Mengelberg and subsequently, Hans Rosbaud. Throughout its existence, the orchestra has been deeply connected to the city of The Hague, performing regularly at the Dr Anton Philipszaal.
Known for its versatile repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works, Residentie Orkest champions both established masterpieces and new compositions. They have a strong commitment to Dutch composers, frequently performing works by figures like Louis Andriessen and Peter Schat.
Under current Music Director Duncan Ward, appointed in 2023, the orchestra continues to build on its reputation for innovative programming and high-quality performances. Previous notable Chief Conductors include Neeme Järvi and Jaap van Zweden. The orchestra actively engages in educational outreach programs and collaborates with international soloists, maintaining a significant presence on concert stages globally and through numerous recordings with labels like Chandos.
