Raphaela Gromes is a German cellist rapidly gaining international recognition for her expressive interpretations and adventurous programming. Trained initially in violin, she switched to the cello and studied with Wen-Sinn Yang at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Gromes rose to prominence winning the International Cello Competition Liezen in 2018 and securing a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2021.

Her repertoire spans from Bach’s solo suites – notably featured on her critically acclaimed debut album *Bach: Suites for Cello* – to contemporary works commissioned specifically for her. She frequently collaborates with composer Nico Muhly, resulting in performances and recordings of his pieces. Gromes is known for a warm, richly textured tone and a willingness to explore lesser-known cello literature alongside established classics.

She performs regularly as a soloist with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
