Rafael Fingerlos is a German composer, pianist, and sound artist renowned for his immersive and often site-specific musical installations. Born in 1986, he studied composition with Wolfgang Rihm at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and later with Unsuk Chin at the Berlin University of the Arts. His work frequently blends acoustic instruments – particularly piano, which he performs extensively on – with electronic processing and field recordings.

Fingerlos’s compositions are characterized by a delicate balance between minimalist structures, spectral textures, and a strong emphasis on spatial sound. He avoids traditional concert formats, preferring to create environments where sound interacts directly with architecture and the listener's perception. Notable commissions include pieces for the MaerzMusik festival (Berlin), the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, and the Donaueschinger Musiktage.

He’s received numerous awards including the German Music Critics Prize (2018) for his album *Viel Klang*, praised for its innovative approach to piano music and sonic exploration. Fingerlos’s work consistently challenges conventional notions of musical performance and composition, establishing him as a significant voice in contemporary experimental music.
