Pieternel Van Oers is a Dutch vocalist, composer, and sound artist renowned for her experimental vocal work and explorations of extended vocal techniques. Emerging from the Dutch improvisation scene in the early 2000s, she quickly distinguished herself through performances prioritizing texture, timbre, and non-linguistic vocal expression.

Van Oers frequently collaborates across disciplines, working with visual artists, dancers, and performance artists. She’s a core member of several ensembles including Slottet (with Anne Bakker & Jasper Stadhouders), known for their immersive sound installations and performances utilizing prepared instruments and vocal layering. Her solo work often involves live looping and processing of her voice, creating dense, atmospheric soundscapes.

She has released albums on labels like Wistful Music and explored field recordings integrated with vocalizations. Van Oers’ work has been presented internationally at festivals such as Unsound (Poland), CTM Festival (Germany), and Rewire (Netherlands). Her practice consistently challenges conventional notions of singing and performance, focusing on the physicality of voice as a sculptural material. She also teaches workshops focusing on extended vocal techniques and improvisation.
