Experience Orchestre de l'Opéra de Lyon
Orchestre de l'Opéra de Lyon is the resident orchestra of the Opéra National de Lyon, one of France’s five opera houses. Founded in 1928 as the Orchestre Symphonique de Lyon, it became intrinsically linked with the opera house in 1964. Throughout its history, the orchestra has collaborated with renowned conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Mark Elder, and Kazushi Ono, currently working under Music Director Daniele Gatti (since 2016).
The ensemble is celebrated for its versatility, performing not only a full operatic repertoire – encompassing Baroque to contemporary works – but also offering symphonic concerts independently. They are particularly known for championing 20th and 21st-century music, frequently commissioning new operas and showcasing modern composers.
Recordings include numerous opera performances released on labels like Deutsche Grammophon and Erato, alongside critically acclaimed concert recordings. The orchestra regularly tours internationally and holds a strong reputation for technical precision and dramatic interpretation, consistently receiving praise for supporting vocal performances with sensitivity and power. Their commitment extends to educational outreach programs within the Lyon community.
