Experience Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana
Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (OSI) is a Swiss-Italian symphony orchestra based in Lugano, Ticino. Founded in 1991 from the merger of the Orchestra della Radio Svizzera Italiana and the Orchestra Sinfonica della RSI, it represents the linguistic and cultural bridge between Italian and German-speaking Switzerland.
Throughout its history, OSI has cultivated a reputation for versatility, performing a broad repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary music. While deeply rooted in the Italian operatic tradition – frequently collaborating with renowned opera houses – the orchestra also excels in symphonic works by composers like Mahler, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev.
Currently led by Principal Conductor Markus Poschner since 2018, OSI regularly performs at the Lugano Festival and tours internationally. They have released numerous recordings on labels including Chandos, garnering critical acclaim for their interpretations. A significant focus is commissioning new works and supporting contemporary composers. The orchestra maintains a strong commitment to education through outreach programs and collaborations with young musicians within the region. Their performances are characterized by precision, passionate expression, and a uniquely Mediterranean warmth.
