Experience Nhau

Nhau, born Tendai Maraire in Zimbabwe, is a multi-instrumentalist and producer forging a unique sound blending traditional Zimbabwean mbira music with electronic and ambient textures. Initially gaining recognition as part of the duo Chimurenga Renaissance with his brother, Pietre Maraire, Nhau began releasing solo work in 2017. His music draws heavily from his lineage – his grandfather was renowned mbira player Sekuru Dumisani Maraire – but actively pushes beyond traditional boundaries.

Nhau’s discography includes the critically acclaimed albums *First Rain* (2017) and *Healing Pool* (2020), both released on the Nyege Nyege Tapes label. He’s known for incorporating field recordings, looping techniques, and subtle electronic production to create immersive sonic landscapes. Performances are often solo affairs, featuring live mbira playing interwoven with manipulated samples and effects.

He has toured extensively across Europe and North America, performing at festivals like Unsound and Moogfest. Nhau's work has been praised for its meditative quality, its respectful reimagining of Zimbabwean musical heritage, and its innovative approach to sound design.
