Experience New Regency Orchestra

New Regency Orchestra, led by composer and arranger Robert B. Read, emerged in the late 1960s as a pioneering force in easy listening and mood music. Initially a studio ensemble assembled for Liberty Records, the Orchestra quickly gained recognition for its sophisticated arrangements of popular songs and original compositions. Their signature sound blended lush orchestral textures with elements of jazz, bossa nova, and psychedelic influences – a distinctly “West Coast” vibe reflecting the era.

Throughout the 1970s, New Regency Orchestra released numerous albums, including *Mood*, *Golden Hour*, and *Love is Blue*, achieving consistent chart success on Billboard’s Easy Listening charts. They were particularly known for their instrumental interpretations of hits by artists like The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and The Carpenters.

Read’s arrangements emphasized melodic beauty and atmospheric depth, creating music ideal for relaxation and sophisticated gatherings. While primarily an album-oriented act, several tracks received radio play. Though the original lineup dissolved in the late 70s, reissues and continued streaming popularity demonstrate enduring appeal, cementing New Regency Orchestra's place as a significant contributor to the easy listening genre's golden age.
