The Nashville Symphony, established in 1946, is Tennessee’s premier orchestra and a nationally recognized ensemble. Initially a volunteer organization, it transitioned to fully professional status in 1969. Throughout its history, the Symphony has been led by distinguished music directors including Thor Johnson, Walter Hendl, Kenneth Schermerhorn (whose tenure significantly raised the orchestra's profile), and currently, Giancarlo Guerrero.

Known for its adventurous programming, the Nashville Symphony balances core classical repertoire with contemporary works and commissions. They’ve gained particular acclaim for their recordings of American orchestral music, winning three GRAMMY Awards – one for Joan Tower’s *Made in America* (2002), another for Michael Daugherty’s *De Profundis* (2011), and most recently for Margaret Bonds’ *Montgomery Variations* (2024).

The orchestra performs regularly at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, a state-of-the-art concert hall opened in 2006. Beyond orchestral concerts, they are deeply involved in community outreach and education programs, serving over 65,000 youth annually.
