Experience Mike Lindup
Mike Lindup is a British musician best known as the keyboardist and vocalist for the new wave band Level 42, active from 1980 to 1994 and reforming in 2006. Born Michael Hugh Lindup in 1956, he initially gained experience playing in jazz-funk bands before co-founding Level 42 with brothers Phil and Alan Gould.
Lindup’s distinctive keyboard style, heavily influenced by jazz fusion and incorporating complex harmonies and improvisation, was integral to Level 42’s signature sound. He frequently employed the Yamaha GS1 synthesizer and was a master of slap bass techniques on keyboards – a technique rarely seen at the time. Beyond keyboards, he contributed significantly to the band's vocal arrangements, often sharing lead vocal duties with Mark King.
Level 42 achieved international success with albums like *Future Games* (1981) and *Romantic Warrior* (1983), charting numerous hits including "Something About You" and "Lessons in Love." Lindup also released a solo album, *About Face* (1987), exploring more overtly jazz-influenced territory.
