Mike de Souza is a Canadian bassist renowned for his sophisticated harmonic approach and lyrical improvisations within the jazz idiom. Emerging in the early 2000s, he quickly established himself as a prominent figure on the Toronto jazz scene, collaborating with artists like David Barlage, Kevin Breit, and Terry Clarke.

De Souza’s style blends post-bop sensibilities with influences from Brazilian music and modern classical composition. He's particularly known for his use of extended harmony and melodic counterpoint, creating a uniquely warm and inviting sound. His discography includes critically acclaimed albums like “Close to You” (2016) and “The Poet & The Painter” (2019), both showcasing his compositional skills alongside his virtuosity on the bass.
