Experience Mietze Conte

Mietze Conte (born Miriam Raluca Georgescu in Bucharest, Romania, 1972) is a critically acclaimed vocalist and composer specializing in Sephardic music, particularly *cante húngaro* – the Hungarian branch of Ladino song. She began her musical journey studying classical violin before dedicating herself to researching and performing this endangered musical heritage.

Conte’s work meticulously reconstructs lost melodies and poetic texts from family archives and historical sources, breathing new life into a tradition carried by Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain in 1492. Her style blends vocal precision with emotive interpretation, often accompanied by traditional instruments like the oud, kanun, and percussion.

She has released several albums including “Sefarad,” “Matzah Ball,” and “Kalé Ofis,” receiving praise for their authenticity and artistry. Conte frequently collaborates with musicians from diverse backgrounds, fostering cross-cultural dialogue through her performances. Beyond recording, she conducts workshops internationally, dedicated to preserving and sharing Sephardic musical traditions with wider audiences. Her contributions have been recognized with awards and grants supporting cultural preservation efforts.
