Midori, born Midori Goto in 1971, is a celebrated American violinist renowned for her passionate performances and dedication to musical outreach. Rising to prominence after a captivating 1986 performance with the New York Philharmonic at age 14 – substituting on short notice for Itzhak Perlman – she quickly garnered international acclaim.
Midori’s repertoire spans a vast range, from core classical works by composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms to contemporary pieces commissioned specifically for her. She is known for her intensely expressive playing style, characterized by technical brilliance and emotional depth. Beyond traditional concert halls, Midori actively champions music education and accessibility. She founded Midori & Friends in 2005, bringing classical music programs to New York City public schools.
