Experience Michael Pignéguy
Michael Pignéguy is a French jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist, born in 1975, renowned for his lyrical improvisation and distinctive tone. He began studying trumpet at age nine, later graduating from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in 1997. Pignéguy quickly established himself on the Parisian jazz scene, collaborating with figures like Laurent Cugny and Daniel Yvinec.
His style blends post-bop influences with a melodic sensibility often drawing comparisons to Chet Baker and Miles Davis – though he possesses a uniquely warm and expressive sound. He’s a champion of both standard repertoire and original compositions.
Pignéguy has released several critically acclaimed albums as a leader, including *Éléments* (2008), *Lost Highway* (2013) featuring Jean-Philippe Vidal, and *Blue Light* (2018). He was awarded the Prix Django Reinhardt in 2016, recognizing him as French Jazz Musician of the Year. Beyond his work as a leader, he is an active sideman, touring internationally with various ensembles and maintaining a dedicated teaching practice.
