Melvin Seals is a highly respected American keyboardist, vocalist, and composer renowned for his decades-long association with the Jerry Garcia Band. Born in 1950, Seals began playing organ at age four and quickly demonstrated prodigious talent. He joined the Jerry Garcia Band in 1980, becoming a pivotal member until Garcia’s death in 1995, and continuing to lead iterations of the band thereafter as Melvin Seals & JGB.

His distinctive style blends gospel, jazz, blues, and rock influences, characterized by soulful Hammond B3 organ playing and powerful vocals. Beyond his work with Garcia, Seals has collaborated with artists like Charlie Musselwhite, Bonnie Raitt, and David Nelson. He’s known for improvisational prowess and ability to seamlessly navigate complex arrangements.

Seals continues to tour extensively with Melvin Seals & JGB, preserving the spirit of the music while incorporating new material.
