Mauricio Mesones is a Peruvian-American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer renowned for his eclectic blend of Latin American folk traditions with jazz, classical, and electronic music. Born in Lima, Peru, Mesones initially trained classically on violin before expanding to include charango, guitar, piano, and percussion. He moved to the United States to pursue formal jazz studies at Berklee College of Music.
His discography includes critically acclaimed albums like *Ancestros* (2017) and *De Cobre* (2023), both showcasing his innovative arrangements and original compositions. Mesones’ music frequently incorporates Andean melodies and rhythms alongside sophisticated harmonic structures. He has collaborated with prominent artists across genres including Lila Downs, Susana Baca, and Arturo O'Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
Mesones’ work has been featured in *NPR Music*, *DownBeat Magazine*, and *The Boston Globe*. He is a recipient of a New England Conservatory Composer Residency and a Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship.
