Matthias Schwengler is a Swiss jazz pianist, composer, and educator renowned for his deeply emotive and technically impressive playing. Born in 1974, he initially studied classical piano before fully dedicating himself to jazz, graduating from the Bern University of the Arts. Schwengler’s style blends post-bop influences with elements of European impressionism and a strong melodic sensibility, often described as lyrical and introspective.

He leads the Matthias Schwengler Trio, consistently receiving critical acclaim for albums like “Singing Stones” (2015) and “When We Were Young” (2018), both released on Skip Records. Beyond his trio work, Schwengler frequently collaborates with prominent international musicians including Ingrid Jensen and Linley Marthe. He’s a sought-after sideman, appearing on numerous recordings across diverse jazz ensembles.

Schwengler has been recognized with several awards including the ZKB Jazz Prize (2013) and consistently ranks highly in Swiss Jazz Awards polls.
