Matthew Halls is a British-born, American-based conductor and organist rapidly gaining international recognition. Initially trained as an organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, achieving a First Class Honours degree from the Royal Academy of Music, Halls transitioned into conducting, studying with Colin Metters. He served as Organist & Choirmaster at St. Bartholomew-the-Great, London before moving to the US.
Halls is currently Music Director of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He previously held positions as Music Director of the Florida Orchestra and Artistic Advisor of the Philharmonia Orchestra. His repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular affinity for British composers like Vaughan Williams and Elgar.
Known for his insightful interpretations and dynamic performances, Halls frequently appears with major orchestras worldwide including the London Philharmonic and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He’s recorded extensively for Naxos Records, garnering critical acclaim for his interpretations of Handel’s concerti grossi and other Baroque masterpieces. His discography also includes works by Mozart and Haydn demonstrating stylistic versatility.
