Experience Marsy

Marsy (born Macy Gray Lakeman, February 26, 1973) is an American singer-songwriter known for her distinctive raspy vocal style and genre-bending music. Rising to prominence in 1999 with her debut album *On How Life Is*, which spawned the Grammy-nominated single “I Try,” Marsy quickly became a defining voice of the neo-soul movement. Her sound blends elements of soul, R&B, jazz, and alternative rock, often incorporating spoken word passages.

Throughout her career, Marsy has released eight studio albums, including *Build a Brick Road* (2001), *The Id* (2003), and *Big* (2007). She’s collaborated with artists like Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. Beyond music, she’s appeared in numerous films and television shows as herself and as an actress.

Marsy's impact extends to advocating for artists’ rights; she notably legally changed her name to Marsy in 2016 to protest record label constraints regarding ownership of her masters.
