Experience Mark Simpson
Mark Simpson (born November 14, 1960) is a British composer, arranger, and keyboardist renowned for his prolific work in pop music, particularly during the 1980s and 90s. Initially gaining prominence as a session musician, Simpson’s arranging and keyboard contributions feature on numerous chart-topping hits by artists like Kylie Minogue (“Especially For You”), Rick Astley (“Never Gonna Give You Up”), and Jason Donovan. He was instrumental in the sound of Stock Aitken Waterman, arguably the most successful songwriting and production team of the late 80s.
Simpson’s style blends sophisticated harmonic arrangements with driving synth-bass lines and catchy melodic hooks – hallmarks of the Hi-NRG/dance-pop sound that defined the era. Beyond his session work, he composed and produced tracks for Hazell Dean and contributed significantly to S/A/W artists’ albums.
He later transitioned into composing orchestral film scores, notably for *The Krays* (1990) featuring a score nominated for an Ivor Novello Award, demonstrating a versatility extending beyond pop production.
