Mark Kavuma is a British jazz trumpeter, composer, and educator rapidly gaining recognition for his distinctive voice within contemporary UK jazz. Born in London in 1990, Kavuma initially honed his skills at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a First-Class Honours degree. He’s become a prominent figure in the scene through consistent work with artists like Nubya Garcia, Sons of Kemet (appearing on their album *Xeno Genesis 2.0*), and Ezra Collective, notably touring extensively with the latter.
Kavuma's style blends hard bop traditions with elements of spiritual jazz and Afrobeat, characterized by lyrical improvisation and a warm, resonant tone. He leads his own quartet, showcasing original compositions featured on his critically acclaimed 2022 debut album *Diatemata*, released on Gearbox Records. *Diatemata* received widespread praise for its sophisticated arrangements and Kavuma’s compelling leadership.
Beyond performance, Kavuma is dedicated to music education, running workshops and mentoring young musicians.
