Experience Marek Janowski
Marek Janowski is a highly respected Polish conductor renowned for his interpretations of German Romantic and 20th-century repertoire, particularly the works of Richard Strauss, Richard Wagner, and Bruckner. Born in 1939, Janowski began his career as a pianist before dedicating himself to conducting, studying with Herbert von Karajan and witnessing Leonard Bernstein’s rehearsals.
He served as General Music Director of the Staatstheater Kassel (1975-1981) and held the position of Music Director at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for a decade (1991-2009), significantly raising its international profile. Janowski has been Principal Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic (1996-2003) and currently holds the title of Conductor Emeritus.
Known for meticulous preparation and a clear, structurally sound approach, Janowski’s recordings – particularly his complete Wagner *Ring* cycle with the Staatskapelle Dresden – have garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards. He’s also undertaken extensive operatic projects at leading houses including Bayreuth Festival.
