Mandingo, the project of producer/musician Peter Beveridge, emerged from the Baltimore electronic music scene in the mid-2000s. Initially focused on sample-based instrumental hip-hop, Mandingo rapidly evolved a distinctive style blending footwork, juke, and grime influences with elements of Baltimore club music. Early releases on labels like Planet Mu and Hyperdub established Beveridge’s knack for complex rhythmic structures and playfully chopped vocal samples.

His 2011 album *Altered States* on Hyperdub is considered a landmark release, showcasing a refined sound characterized by intricate percussion and a unique sonic palette. Mandingo's production often features pitched-up vocals and a deliberately raw, lo-fi aesthetic. Beyond solo work, Beveridge has collaborated extensively with artists like DJ Rashad (as part of Teklife), Bok Bok, and Slikback.

He's known for energetic live performances incorporating DJing and live sampling. While output has been less frequent in recent years, Mandingo remains influential within experimental electronic music circles, consistently pushing boundaries and impacting the development of UK garage-influenced subgenres. His work continues to be celebrated for its innovative approach to rhythm and sound design.
