Makoto Ozone is a highly acclaimed Japanese jazz pianist and composer, renowned for his virtuosic technique and lyrical improvisations. Born in 1961, Ozone initially gained prominence winning the Grand Prix at the 1985 Montreux Jazz Festival’s piano competition. This victory launched an international career, leading to collaborations with jazz giants like Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, and Peter Erskine.

Ozone's style blends post-bop sensibilities with influences from classical music – particularly Debussy and Ravel – and a distinctly Japanese aesthetic. He’s known for both solo piano performances and leading trios, consistently exploring harmonic complexity and melodic beauty.

Throughout his career, Ozone has released over 20 albums as a leader on labels including Verve and Blue Note, receiving numerous awards including Swing Journal’s Jazz Pianist of the Year multiple times.
