Magela Herrera is a Cuban vocalist and percussionist, deeply rooted in the traditions of *son cubano* and Afro-Cuban religious music. Born into a musical family – her mother was the renowned singer Omara Portuondo – Herrera initially pursued a career in track and field, achieving national recognition as an athlete. However, she ultimately returned to her musical heritage.

Herrera’s style blends traditional Cuban sounds with contemporary arrangements, showcasing her powerful vocals and masterful *cajón* playing. She debuted as a soloist in 2002 with “De Aquí No Sale Nada,” quickly gaining acclaim for her authentic interpretations and energetic performances. Subsequent albums like "Con el Alma en la Mano" (2014) and "Ancestros" (2019) further solidified her position as a leading figure in contemporary Cuban music.

She’s toured internationally, performing at major festivals and venues, and has collaborated with artists across genres.
