Maciej Obara Quartet has rapidly become a significant force in contemporary European jazz. Polish saxophonist and composer Maciej Obara leads this ensemble, formed in 2016, featuring pianist Joachim Nadler, bassist Tomasz Prucnal, and drummer Filip Witek. Obara’s musical journey began classically, transitioning to jazz studies at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
The quartet’s style is characterized by intricate compositions blending post-bop influences with elements of Polish folk music and a distinctly lyrical approach. They are known for their dynamic interplay and sophisticated harmonic language. Their debut album, *Northern Landscapes* (2018), earned critical acclaim, followed by *Unison* (2020) which received an award from the Fryderyk Polish Music Academy.
Their 2023 album *III* further cemented their reputation, gaining widespread praise for its maturity and innovative arrangements. The quartet consistently tours internationally, performing at prominent jazz festivals including Jazztopad Festival (Poland), JazzFest Berlin, and others across Europe.
