Experience Los Piraña
Los Piraña are a Colombian musical group originating from the Pacific coastal town of Juradó, Chocó, formed in 1998. Initially a project of producer and musician Saulo Meza, the band blends traditional *currulao* rhythms – the music of the Afro-Colombian Pacific coast – with elements of salsa, funk, and rock. Their sound is characterized by powerful percussion, driving basslines, and call-and-response vocals often sung in Palenquero, an endangered creole language.
Los Piraña gained international recognition after being discovered by DJ Nickodemus who released their music on his Wonderwheel Recordings label in the early 2000s. They’ve since toured extensively throughout Europe and North America, performing at festivals like WOMAD and Roskilde.
Their albums include *Piraña* (2003), *Brand New Piranha* (2005), *Salón de Belleza* (2011), and *Amanecer* (2017).
