Lio Kuokman is a Hong Kong-born, UK-based pianist and composer rapidly gaining international recognition for his dynamic performances and innovative approach to classical music. Trained at the Royal Academy of Music under Hamish Milne and Ian Pace, Kuokman distinguishes himself through a fiercely individual style that blends virtuosic technique with profound musicality.

He’s particularly celebrated for his interpretations of 20th and 21st-century composers, notably Messiaen, Ligeti, and Sorabji – the latter forming the core of his critically acclaimed debut album, *Sorabji: Gulestan*, released on Rubicon Classics in 2021 to widespread praise including Gramophone Editor’s Choice. This album was a landmark recording, bringing renewed attention to the challenging works of Alwynne Sorabji.

Kuokman frequently performs as a soloist internationally, appearing at venues like the Southbank Centre (London) and festivals including Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Beyond performance, he is an active researcher and writer on musical topics, demonstrating a deep intellectual engagement with the repertoire he champions. He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford focusing on Sorabji's compositional techniques.
