Leonard Slatkin is a highly respected American conductor, renowned for his interpretations of American composers and a remarkably versatile repertoire. Born in 1945, he served as Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for 17 years (1990-2004), elevating its national and international profile with critically acclaimed recordings – including a complete Prokofiev symphony cycle – and extensive touring.

Prior to St. Louis, Slatkin held positions with the New Orleans Philharmonic and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He’s guest conducted globally with leading orchestras like the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, and London Philharmonic. A champion of contemporary music, Slatkin has premiered numerous works and fostered collaborations with living composers.

His discography boasts over 100 recordings, earning multiple Grammy Awards and nominations, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. Known for his meticulous preparation and emotionally resonant performances, Slatkin's style emphasizes clarity and balance while bringing dramatic intensity to orchestral works.
