Leon Bosch (born 1951) is a South African-born, British classical double bassist renowned for his exceptional technique and expressive musicianship. He began his studies in South Africa before moving to London in 1978 to study with Clarence Hartley, quickly establishing himself as a prominent orchestral player. Bosch served as Principal Double Bass with the London Symphony Orchestra from 1986 to 2014, a tenure marked by extensive touring and recording.

Beyond orchestral work, Bosch maintains a distinguished solo career, performing concertos and chamber music internationally. He’s particularly celebrated for championing the repertoire for the double bass, commissioning new works and reviving lesser-known pieces. A highly respected pedagogue, he holds a professorship at the Royal Academy of Music in London, nurturing the next generation of double bassists.

Bosch’s playing is characterized by its rich tone, lyrical phrasing, and virtuosic agility – qualities documented across numerous recordings including concertos by Vaughan Williams and Koussevitzky. He's received critical acclaim for bringing both power and subtlety to this often-underappreciated instrument.
