The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) is Latvia’s premier orchestra, boasting a rich history dating back to 1926. Originally founded as the Riga Philharmonic Orchestra, it underwent several transformations before solidifying its current name in 1990. The LNSO performs regularly at the Great Guild Hall in Riga, a venue renowned for its exceptional acoustics.

Throughout its existence, the orchestra has cultivated a reputation for versatility, performing a broad repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works. While maintaining a strong commitment to Latvian composers like Jānis Mediņš and Pēteris Vasks, the LNSO frequently collaborates with internationally acclaimed soloists and conductors.

Significant milestones include extensive touring throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, alongside numerous recordings for labels like Ondine and Naxos. The orchestra has received critical acclaim for its interpretations of Mahler and Shostakovich, particularly under the long-standing leadership of conductor Andris Poneļs (1993-2013).
