Lapin Kamariorkesteri (Lapland Chamber Orchestra) is a Finnish ensemble renowned for blending classical chamber music with influences from Finnish folk music, particularly the distinctive *yoik* singing tradition of the Sámi people. Founded in 1996 by composer and violinist Seppo Hovi, the orchestra initially aimed to revitalize interest in Sámi musical heritage.

Their style is characterized by innovative arrangements featuring traditional Sámi instruments like the *joik* vocals, *fadnu* (Sámi frame drum), and *guovža* (Sámi birchbark horn) alongside standard chamber orchestra instrumentation. They’ve collaborated extensively with prominent Sámi artists including Mari Boine, Nils-Aslak Valkeapää, and Ulla Pirttijärvi-Länsman.

Lapin Kamariorkesteri has released numerous critically acclaimed albums, notably “Áhpi” (2003) and “Ravna” (2010), receiving Jussi Awards (Finnish Grammy equivalent) for their work. Beyond recordings, they frequently perform internationally, showcasing Sámi culture and pushing boundaries within contemporary classical music.
