Langston Hughes II is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer rapidly gaining recognition for his innovative blend of jazz, neo-soul, and electronic music. Born and raised in Chicago, he initially honed his skills as a classically trained pianist before expanding into saxophone, bass, and drum programming. He’s a direct descendant of the famed poet Langston Hughes, a lineage he acknowledges influences his storytelling through sound.

Hughes II's debut EP, *Reflections*, released in 2021, established his signature atmospheric soundscapes layered with intricate rhythms and improvisational elements. He’s collaborated with artists like Terrace Martin and Robert Glasper, further solidifying his presence within the contemporary jazz scene. His work often incorporates spoken word samples – a nod to his ancestor – exploring themes of Black identity, history, and resilience.

Notably, he was selected as a resident artist at the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program in 2023. His live performances are characterized by dynamic energy and seamless transitions between composed arrangements and free improvisation. Hughes II continues to tour extensively while working on his forthcoming full-length album anticipated for release in late 2024.
