Kristjan Järvi is an Estonian-American conductor and composer renowned for his adventurous and boundary-pushing approach to classical music. Born in New York City into a musical family – son of conductors Neeme and Jaani Järvi – he initially trained as a pianist at the Manhattan School of Music before focusing on conducting.

Järvi gained prominence founding the innovative Absolute Ensemble, a flexible orchestra dedicated to contemporary repertoire and cross-genre collaborations. He’s championed a “garage band” aesthetic within orchestral performance, prioritizing energy and immediacy. His conducting engagements span globally, including positions with Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, and as Artistic Advisor to the Vienna Tonkunstler Orchestra.

A prolific composer, Järvi’s works often blend classical structures with electronic elements, jazz influences, and world music rhythms. He's received commissions from major orchestras and festivals worldwide. Notable recordings include projects with Deutsche Grammophon and ECM New Series showcasing his unique interpretations of composers like Arvo Pärt alongside his own compositions. He consistently seeks to redefine the concert experience, making classical music accessible to wider audiences through innovative programming and digital initiatives.
