Experience Konstantin Lifschitz
Konstantin Lifschitz is a Russian-born, internationally acclaimed pianist renowned for his intensely intellectual and meticulously crafted interpretations of J.S. Bach. Born in Moscow in 1976, Lifschitz studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Lev Naumov, a student of Heinrich Neuhaus. He gained prominence winning the International Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1998.
Lifschitz’s style is characterized by a remarkably clear articulation, structural clarity, and avoidance of Romantic-era performance practices often applied to Bach. He actively advocates for historically informed performance, prioritizing contrapuntal lines and rhythmic precision over expressive rubato. This approach has garnered both praise for its intellectual rigor and criticism for its perceived austerity.
He is particularly known for his complete recordings of *The Well-Tempered Clavier* (multiple versions), *The Goldberg Variations*, and the *Art of Fugue*, released on the ACCENT label to widespread critical acclaim. Beyond Bach, he performs Scarlatti extensively and has recorded works by other Baroque composers.
