Kermit Ruffins (born 1952) is a highly influential New Orleans trumpeter and vocalist, deeply rooted in the city’s traditional jazz heritage while incorporating elements of blues, R&B, and funk. Emerging from the vibrant Tremé neighborhood, Ruffins honed his skills with luminaries like Ellis Marsalis Jr. and initially gained prominence playing with the Rebirth Brass Band in the 1980s.

He launched his solo career in the early 1990s, quickly establishing himself as a leading figure in the New Orleans jazz revival. Ruffins’ sound is characterized by its joyous energy, soulful vocals, and masterful trumpet playing – often described as possessing a warm, inviting tone. He's known for his charismatic stage presence and ability to connect with audiences.

Ruffins has released numerous critically acclaimed albums including *Kermit Ruffins* (1990), *World War New Orleans* (1996), and *Livin' in a Lil' Bit of Paradise* (2001). He received a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album in 2008 for *Music Garden*.
