Experience Kenyatta
Kenyatta Lee Frazier, professionally known as Kenyatta (born October 26, 1974), is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and record producer renowned for his extensive work within the neo-soul and hip-hop genres. Initially gaining prominence as a drummer, Kenyatta’s career blossomed through collaborations with artists like D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, and Maxwell. He co-founded the critically acclaimed band Soulquarians alongside Questlove, Pino Palladino, Roy Hargrove, and James Poyser – a collective instrumental in defining the sound of late 90s/early 2000s soul music.
Beyond drumming, Kenyatta is a proficient bassist, keyboardist and vocalist contributing significantly to the arrangements of landmark albums like D’Angelo’s *Voodoo* and Erykah Badu’s *Mama's Gun*. His production credits include work with Jill Scott, Common, and Musiq Soulchild. Kenyatta's style blends jazz improvisation with deeply rooted funk and soul sensibilities. He continues to tour and record both as a solo artist and collaborator; his recent projects showcase his evolving artistry while maintaining the organic feel that defines his signature sound.
