Ken-David Masur is a German-American conductor rapidly gaining international recognition for his insightful and emotionally resonant interpretations. Born in 1982, he initially studied violin before dedicating himself to conducting, receiving training from Kurt Masur (his father) and David Zinman. He served as Chief Conductor of the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra (2013-2018), significantly raising their profile through innovative programming and critically acclaimed performances.
Masur’s repertoire spans a wide range, from Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular affinity for composers like Mahler, Shostakovich, and Weinberg – the latter being a focus of his ongoing research and recording projects. He’s championed lesser-known works alongside established classics. Currently, he holds positions as Music Director of the Israel Camerata – Jerusalem Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Busan Symphony Orchestra.
Known for his meticulous preparation and ability to forge strong relationships with orchestras, Masur has conducted with leading ensembles globally including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich.
