Koizumi’s solo career blossomed alongside this work. He blends deeply rooted swing traditions with modern harmonic concepts, often incorporating elements of post-bop and even subtle classical influences. His playing is characterized by a lyrical touch, sophisticated improvisation, and a remarkable technical facility.
He has released several critically acclaimed albums as a leader, notably "First Step" (2006), "Blue Marble" (2011), and “Sakura Sakura” (2018), showcasing both his trio work and compositions. Koizumi frequently performs at renowned jazz clubs and festivals globally, establishing himself as a leading figure in contemporary Japanese jazz.
