Experience Katharina Müllner
Katharina Müllner is an Austrian composer, sound artist, and performer recognized for her experimental and often unsettling electronic music. Initially gaining prominence within Vienna’s radical free improvisation scene, Müllner’s work increasingly incorporates field recordings, manipulated vocals, and custom-built electronic instruments. She frequently explores themes of power dynamics, surveillance, and the body through sonic textures ranging from abrasive noise to delicate ambience.
Müllner holds a degree in composition from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and has received numerous awards including the START scholarship of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Education and Media. Her discography includes albums like *Ruhe* (2018) on Editions Mego and *Phantom Limb* (2023) on self-release, both critically acclaimed for their challenging yet captivating soundscapes.
Beyond solo work, she collaborates extensively with artists across disciplines – performance art, visual arts – and performs internationally at festivals dedicated to experimental music and sound art such as Unsound, CTM Festival, and Donaufestival. Müllner's practice consistently pushes boundaries within contemporary electronic music.
