Experience Kansas City Symphony
The Kansas City Symphony (KCS), founded in 1902 as the Kansas City Philharmonic, is Missouri’s largest professional orchestra. Throughout its history, the KCS has evolved from a volunteer ensemble to a nationally recognized performing arts organization. Currently led by Music Director David Danzmayr since 2017, the orchestra performs over 70 concerts annually, encompassing classical masterworks, pops performances, family concerts, and innovative collaborations.
Known for its adventurous programming and commitment to community engagement, the KCS frequently commissions new works and partners with local artists. Significant accomplishments include critically acclaimed recordings on the Reference Recordings label – notably their Grammy-nominated release of composer George Walker’s *Sinfonietta No. 2*. The Symphony is a resident company of Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, providing a state-of-the-art performance venue.
Beyond concert hall performances, KCS maintains extensive education and outreach programs reaching over 100,000 youth annually. They actively participate in initiatives aimed at making orchestral music accessible to diverse audiences within the Kansas City metropolitan area and beyond.
