Experience Kaja Draksler

Kaja Draksler is a Slovenian-born, Copenhagen-based saxophonist and composer rapidly gaining recognition for her distinctive approach to improvised music and contemporary jazz. Initially trained classically on piano, she transitioned to saxophone, studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Draksler’s work consistently explores extended techniques, microtonality, and a deeply personal sonic language.

She leads several ensembles, most notably Kaja Draksler Octet, whose debut album *Ripoline* (2021) received widespread critical acclaim – lauded by publications like The Wire and Bandcamp Daily – for its intricate arrangements and evocative atmosphere. Draksler also co-leads the duo with pianist Johan Berthling (The Acid House Orchestra) and has collaborated extensively with artists including Christian Lillinger, Peter Brötzmann (posthumously), and Lotte Anker.

Her compositional style often draws inspiration from literature and visual art, resulting in pieces that are both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant. Draksler's performances are characterized by a captivating stage presence and a commitment to spontaneous interaction within structured frameworks. She has been awarded several grants and residencies supporting her innovative musical endeavors throughout Europe.
