Jorge Vistel is a Cuban percussionist, composer, and arranger renowned for his masterful playing of the *cajón*, a box-shaped percussion instrument originating in Peru. Born in Havana, Cuba in 1976, Vistel initially trained classically on piano before dedicating himself to percussion. He rose to prominence as a founding member and principal percussionist of the internationally acclaimed Afro-Cuban jazz group, Orishas, from 1998-2008, contributing significantly to their unique sound blending traditional Cuban rhythms with hip-hop and jazz influences.

Following Orishas, Vistel launched a successful solo career, releasing albums like “Invierno” (2014) and “Suite Cubana” (2018), showcasing his compositional skills and virtuosity. His style seamlessly integrates Afro-Cuban folklore – particularly *rumba* and *son* – with elements of jazz fusion and contemporary world music.

Vistel has collaborated with numerous prominent artists including Chucho Valdés, Richard Bona, and Alain Pérez.
