Experience John Suchet
John Suchet (born 1945) is a British classical music presenter and, notably, a former newsreader for ITN. While widely recognised for his broadcasting career spanning over four decades, Suchet also possesses significant musical training as a cellist, studying at the Royal College of Music. He transitioned from news to music presenting in the late 1980s, becoming a prominent voice on Classic FM, where he hosted the flagship *Midday* programme for many years.
Suchet’s style is characterised by accessible and enthusiastic presentation, demystifying classical music for a broad audience. He’s particularly known for his detailed biographical explorations of composers, culminating in several critically acclaimed books including biographies of Beethoven and Mahler. Beyond radio, he has presented numerous live concert series and conducted orchestras in light classical performances.
He's received honorary doctorates from universities acknowledging his contribution to classical music appreciation and was awarded an MBE in 2013 for services to broadcasting and music. Though not a performing musician in the traditional sense, Suchet’s dedication has made him a highly influential figure in popularising classical music within the UK and beyond.
