John Rae is a Scottish electronic musician and DJ, best known as one half of the critically acclaimed duo Optimo (Espacio). Beginning his DJing career in Glasgow in the early 1990s, Rae quickly became a pivotal figure in the city’s vibrant club scene, championing eclectic and experimental sounds. Optimo (with Twitch) rose to prominence through their influential Subclub residency, running for over a decade and becoming legendary for its unpredictable, genre-bending sets.

Rae's musical style is characterized by a refusal to adhere to genre constraints, seamlessly blending disco, techno, electro, indie rock, and obscure samples. He's renowned for his meticulous crate-digging and innovative mixing techniques. Following Optimo’s eventual split in 2015, Rae continued as a solo artist, releasing material on labels like RVNG Intl. and continuing to tour internationally.

His 2017 album *Everything is Forever* received widespread praise for its atmospheric soundscapes and emotionally resonant textures. Beyond production & DJing, Rae has curated mixes for Resident Advisor and FACT Magazine, solidifying his position as a tastemaker and influential voice within electronic music culture.
