JoAnn Falletta is a highly acclaimed American conductor, renowned for her energetic performances and dedication to bringing fresh perspectives to both standard repertoire and contemporary works. Born in New York City, she initially gained prominence as a violinist before transitioning to conducting, studying with George Szell.

Falletta currently serves as Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (a position held since 1999), the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (since 2001), and Principal Guest Conductor of the Brescia and Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestras. She previously led the Colorado Symphony Orchestra for twelve years.

Her extensive discography includes numerous recordings with the BPO and VSO, earning multiple Grammy nominations and accolades, particularly for her interpretations of American composers like Copland and Bernstein. Falletta is a champion of women composers, actively programming their works and advocating for greater representation in classical music. She has received the Seaver/National Endowment for the Arts Conductors Award and holds honorary doctorates from several universities. Her conducting style is noted for its clarity, emotional depth, and commitment to engaging audiences.
